Forte {Oxnard High School}
Sunday, 11:00am
Under the director of Bruce Edmiston Oxnard High School received national recognition in 2004 when Brian McKnight presented the first “Enterprise Award” from the Grammy Foundation to the school. Mr. McKnight also performed in concert with Mr. Edmiston’s students and was very impressed by the level of musicianship and professionalism displayed by all the performers. Although over 20,000 school nationwide were competing for this award the Grammy Foundation felt Mr. Edmiston’s program was most deserving. The Grammy Foundation was duly impressed, in part, with the diversity of classes that are offered and taught by Mr. Edmiston.
As a result of this monumental achievement the group Forte was conceived. The group consists of 1st soprano’s Juliana Zara, Andrea Beard, 2nd soprano Jubyanne Basa, and alto Natalie Mabalot. Zachary Quillin alto/tenor sax, Andy Barbosa tenor sax and clarinetist Hovan Salibian comprise the horn section. Bassist Kevin Bredall, Drummer Orlando Esparza, Guitarist Bruce Edmiston form the rhythm section. Aside from classroom instruction these students put in many hours on the weekends, before, and after school that are too numerous to keep track of. Their dedication, passion, and love for music is evident to all who have the opportunity to hear them sing or hear them talk about the difference music has made in their lives.
